Spoiler Alert – Mt. Everest is 29,032 feet.

What’s New: Video and audio from an aircraft flying near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Its GPS system was apparently experiencing some kind of interference and warning the pilot of terrain that wasn’t there.

Why It’s Important:

Pilots regularly rely on their instruments to keep the aircraft safe and on-course, especially at night and in bad weather. Not being able to rely on the instruments introduces a whole lot of uncertainty and makes things much less safe. Best case is that these things are distractions, which still harm flight safety. Eastern Airlines flight 401 crashed into the Everglades with 101 fatalities because the pilots were distracted by a minor instrument malfunction (light bulb out).

What Else to Know:

Numerous aircraft systems and applications rely on GPS for their operation. Navigation and terrain avoidance are just two of the most important. Click on image below and turn up your sound for the video.

FO kind enough to take time to film incident 😂 my question, how often does this happen? I imagine it to be super scary if this happens at night over mountains.
