Do not put words into my mouth.(我没有说过,不要把这个话强加于我!)”

Information is often spread by/through word of mouth. This is general communication between people, like friends talking to each other. "How did you hear about that new movie?" someone might ask. "Oh, by word of mouth." A more official way of getting information is through a company or government "mouthpiece". This is an official spokesperson. A government-run media could also be called a "mouthpiece".

“How did you hear about that new movie?(你怎么听说到那部新电影的呢?)”有人会问,“Oh, by word of mouth.(听来的呀)”。

Sometimes when one person is speaking, he might say the same thing that his friend was going to say. When this happens, the friend might say, "You took the words right out of my mouth!" Sometimes a person has a bad or unpleasant experience with another person. He might say that experience "left a bad taste in my mouth". Or the person might have had a very frightening experience, like being chased by an angry dog. He might say, "I had my heart in my mouth."

Some people have lots of money because they were born into a very rich family. There is an expression for this, too. You might say such a person "was born with a silver spoon in his mouth".

这还有另外一种表达方式,你可以说这种人“was born with a silver spoon in his mouth(含着金汤匙出生)”。

This rich person is the opposite of a person who "lives from hand to mouth". This person is very poor and only has money for the most important things in life, like food.

Now it’s enough of all this talk. I have been "running off at the mouth" long enough.

我已经“running off at the mouth(滔滔不绝)”太久了。

1.bad-mouth

v. to say unpleasant things about sb

eg. No one wants to employ some-body who bad-mouths his former employer.

2. put one’s foot in one’s mouth

He has put his foot in his mouth again."

原来这个习语是从另一个习语put one’s foot in it衍生出来的。

《朗文当代高级英语辞典》对put one’s foot in it / put one’s foot in one’s mouth的解释是这样的:to say something wrong or unsuitable, as a result of thoughtlessness, and cause an awkward situation.

eg. I really put my foot in my mouth when I asked him how his wife was, she’s left him for another man.

3. down in the mouth

闷闷不乐;沮丧;垂头丧气;愁眉苦脸,是“down in the bushes”的变体

eg.Paul looks down in the mouth because she failed in the attempt.

7. take the words right out of one’s mouth

eg. We must think a lot alike because you always take the words right out of my mouth.

8. leave a bad taste in one’s mouth

10. be born with a silver spoon in one’s mouth

11. live from hand to mouth

eg. Michael was earning $250 a month working at a factory. He was really living from hand to mouth every month.

12. run off at the mouth
