1. make up 组成/编造/补偿/化妆/和解

这个片语的意思很多，但都是相当常见的用法，不可不知！

组成

Our team is made up of eleven members.

我们团队由11位成员组成。

编造

The story John told you was totally a lie. He made it up.

刚刚 John 告诉你的故事完全是谎言，那是他虚构的。

补偿

Can I make up the history exam I missed?

我错过的历史考试可以补考吗？

和解

Clark and Lois had a fight but soon made up.

Clark 和 Lois 起了争执但很快就和好了。

2. make up one’s mind 下定决心

Bruce made up his mind to stop gambling and go find a job finally.

Bruce 终于下定决心戒掉赌博并开始找工作。

3. make out 亲热/结果/了解意义

亲热

Phil was making out with his girlfriend in his room last night.

Phil 昨晚和女友在他的房间裡亲热。

结果

Our new coffee shop made out better than expected this quarter.

我们新开的咖啡厅这一季的表现比预期好很多！

了解意义

make out 当理解时与 figure out 意思相同。

Alfred was still confused and trying to make/figure out what had happened.

Alfred 仍然相当困惑，并试图理解到底发生了什么事。

4. make it 达到特定目标或抵达某地

It’s tough to succeed in real estate business, but if you work hard I know you’ll make it eventually.

要在房地产业成功很困难，但如果你努力工作，我相信你最后可以达到的。

5. make sense 合理

Why would he do such a terrible thing? It makes no sense.

为什么他做了这么糟糕的事？这不合理。

6. make a fortune 发财、赚到一笔钱

Diana made a fortune on the stock market.

7. make a living 维生

Olivia is struggling to make a living as a ballet dancer.

9. make progress 进步

注意不要写成 make a progress 喔！

10. make no difference 没有作用或影响

This policy made no difference to the economy.
