both…and…, not only…but also…, either…or…, neither…nor…可以叫成对并列连词，但 not…but…, not…or…, not…nor…不宜说成是成对并列连词。其实它们就是并列连词 but, or, nor 的否定形式：

1. not…but…的意思是“不是……而是……”（否定一个，肯定一个）。如：

He’s not an officer, but a common soldier. 他不是军官而是普通士兵。

It’s not a great job, but it’s a living.  这不是什么了不起的工作，而是谋生之道。

She felt not fear, but a kind of dead calm. 她感到的不是害怕，而是一种没有生气的平静。

2. not…or…, not…nor…两者意思基本相同，均表示“不……也不……”（否定两者），但后者比前更强调。如：

He can’t read or write. 他不会看书也不会写字。

We don’t know or care where he is. 我们不知道也不关心他在哪里。

He will not confirm or deny the allegations. 他既不肯定也不否认那些说法。

It was not my fault, nor his. 那不是我的错，也不是他的。

I do not dream nor fable. 我既不痴心妄想，也不胡编乱造。
