Arlington will spray for mosquitoes this week after confirming that nine additional mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus following several rounds of spraying in the last few weeks.

Crews began spraying Wednesday night and will resume Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. in targeted locations at Saddle Ridge Road at Yacht Club Drive, East Abram Street at New York Avenue, West Arkansas Lane at Lakewood Drive, Westwood Drive at Findlay Drive, Eden Road at West Lynn Creek Drive, Yaupon Drive at Green Oaks Boulevard, Caliente Drive at Commander Court, Sherry Street at Pioneer Parkway and Helen Drive at Hadley Drive.

One additional mosquito sample tested positive for West Nile virus in the town of Pantego on Arlington’s border. The spraying in Pantego will be at Melbourne Drive at Sarah Drive, which includes a portion of Arlington.

The spraying poses no risks to the environment or to animals, but residents with “chemical sensitivity or breathing conditions such as asthma” who do not want to be exposed should remain inside while the spraying takes place, according to a city news release.

Public health experts advise reducing exposure to mosquitoes by wearing long sleeves and pants when outside, using insect repellents and draining any standing water in yards or neighborhoods.
