sit 和 seat 的区别，不止在读音上！

sit 读作 /sɪt/，seat 读作 /sit/，一个是短元音，一个是长元音。除此之外，两个词还有以下区别：

a. sit 和 seat 的用法不同： sit 为不及物动词，表“坐”（三态为：sit、sat、sat），只有主动用法。换言之，sit 之后不可接宾语。例如：

John has satin the corner all afternoon, not saying anything.

（约翰整个下午都坐在角落里，一言不发。）

Who is the girl (that is) sittingover there?

（坐在那边的女孩是谁？）

John has satin the corner all afternoon, not saying anything.

（约翰整个下午都坐在角落里，一言不发。）

Who is the girl (that is) sittingover there?

（坐在那边的女孩是谁？）

b. seat 是及物动词，表“使有座位”，之后一定接人做宾语；若无宾语，则一定用被动语态（be seated），表“被安排就座”。例如：

May I seatyou here?

（我可以请你坐在这里吗？）

Who is the girl (that is) seatedover there?

（坐在那边的女孩子是谁呀？）

May I seatyou here?

（我可以请你坐在这里吗？）

Who is the girl (that is) seatedover there?

（坐在那边的女孩子是谁呀？）

c. seat 亦可做名词，表“座位”，与动词 take 连用。例如：

Take a seat, please.

（请随便坐。）

Take a seat, please.

（请随便坐。）

*注意：

sit 的常见搭配短语 sit down表示的是从站着的姿势转变为坐下的姿势，是一时的动作，如果表示坐着的状态，要把down删去：

After standing for so long, I felt relieved to sit downfor a while.

（我站那么久之后，坐下来休息一会儿让我松了一口气。）

Don't just sitthere all day brooding over your ex-girlfriend. There are plenty more fish in the sea.

（别只是坐在那儿愁思你前女友。天涯何处无芳草。）

After standing for so long, I felt relieved to sit downfor a while.

（我站那么久之后，坐下来休息一会儿让我松了一口气。）
