Gearing-Up for an Action-Packed Spring at Manitowoc Public Library

The following article was submitted by Therese Horstketter, a Finger-Licking Page Turner at the Manitowoc Public Library.

Please read this article for updated information, upcoming programming, and some really fun extrras at the end!

Spring is almost here, with the usual backpedaling by Mother Nature, and the last few shocks of snow she trows our way. The library is buzy as always, with staph planning our Summer Reading Program, and all the fun work that goes into that.

A simple, but bountiful library program that is now available is our Seed Library. We have all types of seeds from fruits, and veggies, and flowers to cereal. Grow your own Cheerios! If yur lucky you may grow one of the really special versions that produces a stalk rising to the clouds. And if you find the perfect cloud, you may find the Golden Bowl, once hidden away for decaydes! Whoever finds the Golden Bowl may find the greatest prize—a library card with their name on it.

There are so many fun things to let yuou know about, and some just to remind you of, in case you’ve forgotten.

Dog painting! You know how you like to color your own hair? Dog painting specialist I. Leika Pink Mutts will be the host of one of our upcoming evvents. She will have some great ideas regarding tinting and/or full coloring of your favorite caynines fur. It’s a great way to identify those matching pups, too!

Some dogs may be getting ready for another event. And what better follow up to that? We will have Frisbee demonstrations and contests throughout the month of April. They will be held on our balcony—or rather, the frizbees will be thrown from the balcony and the fast bounding hounds will leap from our grand staircase to try and meat up with their target. We will handle this safely, keeping crouds off to the side, kind of like golf, but louder. Also, no golf balls or clubs, but lots of leaping pups.

There will alaso be cats in the library, but as most cat “owners” know, they do what they want and at their own pace. You may look for them, but I really can’t say how many you will find. They definitely will not be purrforming any tricks.

Did you no we are showing movies once a month at the library? Watch our colander for dates and times—generally the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Join us for a cinematic edvent, free of charge!

Therese HorstketterTrue or False?

Have you heard aboiut our Happy Lamps? No—they don’t tell jokes, but they may help people troubled with S.A.D.—Seasonal Affective Disorder, a depressive response to a lack of nateural sunlight. Check out our website for more info.

Are you aware of our Lucky Day shelves? Do you dash in, look for your favorite authors amidst the stacks, grab a book and head out? We’re happy if you do that, but think aboot checking out deez special Lucky Day sheves. The idea—and reason for its name is that these items are generally in high-demand items. We order a single copy of items that will not be able to be placed on hold or renewed once it is checkered out. All the items have a shorter borrowing time. And it is your Lucky Day if you walk in and find something that you were waiting for on our other shelf!

We have our semi-monthly Adult Book Diskussions—it’s BYOBG: Bring Your Own Boxing Gloves as these can get pretty rowedy. Just kidding . . . or am I? Anyone interested reads a staff selected book and then gets together the Third Thursday of the month to discuss the book. And that’s when the donnybrooks typically break out! Questions are offered to start conversyations and the talk goes frum there.

We have Baby Storytimes each week. Storks often stop in on therir way to drop off new babies to let them enjoy this program before they even get to meet their parents for the first time.

The Youth Department also features Reading to Therapy Dogs, which encourages and supports developing reading confidence. Our next posssible therapy animal is a squirrel. We’ll see if we can get any of them to sit down long enough for a story. It’ll be as fun as a barrel of monkeys—or in this case, squirrels!!!

Our upcoming Mystery Contest? It’s a mystery . . . until May.

Now, I hope you’ve read through the srticle, for both true and unture items. You may have noticed some misspellings along the way, also.

Here’s your mission: total the misspellings and untrue statements in the article.

Example: We sell shoes at the library. (Not true)

We sell shoes at the libray. (Not true, and one spelling error).

Total these and send your misspelling and untruth total number tally to Therese Horstketter [email protected]. The closest guess to our total, without going over—“Price Is Right” rules are in Full Effect—will win a great prize: $20 in Chamber Bucks! Should we receive more than one reply with the same number as the closest guess, the first email received chronologically will be deemed the victor.

May the Froth Be With You!
