I see a lot of buzz around ChatGPT & GPT-4, putting OpenAI in a high pedestal and claiming godlike capabilities in societal transformation. These tools are beyond amazing, and there is still so much untapped potential. Nevertheless, I can't get over the fact that we're slowly sliding away into another polipoly of tech giants. "Companies have a tendency to stockpile data in order to maintain their competitive advantage. Once AI enters the equation, though, it creates an endless cycle: Those companies who dominate the market have greater access to data, which allows them to develop better machine learning models, which encourages users to use the platform and generate more data." This is a beautiful quote by the Mozilla foundation, which announced a few days ago it's 30M$ investment in the creation their own AI startup, Mozilla.ai. https://lnkd.in/dGAN8DSK I am happy to see other corporations & foundations deciding to invest and try to compete, instead of going to closed partnerships of exclusivity, boosting themselves in the backs of the already estaished data rich companies. Data is power. More today than ever before, "but like all power, there are those who want to keep it for themselves". What was Aaron Swartz fight 20 years ago is now ours, previously with open access internet and now with open source AI. Only now power can snowball much faster. #ai #tech #data #society
