薛立新导师：neither和either的区别

一、共同点

二者都可用作主语、宾语和定语。neither 和 eith 叮在句中作

主语时，谓语动词必须用单数形式；作定语时，其后的名词都用

单数。例如：

1．There are so many buildings on ＿＿＿ side of the road．

A．all B．both C．either D．every

2．—When shall we meet，thiseveningor tomorrowmorning？

—I don't mind．＿＿＿ is OK．

A．All B．Every C．Either D．Both

3．＿＿＿ of my parents has come yet．

A．Each B．Both C．Neither D．Either

二、不同点

neither 是表示“两者都不”的否定说法，可构成“neither…

nor”的句型；either 是表示“两人或两物中任何一个”的肯定说

法，可构成“either…or”句型。例如：

1．Mr Black has two children．＿＿ of them is a doctor．

A．None B．Both C．Neither D．No one

2．Lucy and Lily both ＿＿＿ singing，but ＿＿＿ of them is

good at dancing．

A．like；every B．like；neither

C．likes；both D．likes；all

3．—Can you speak Chinese or Japanese？

—I can speak，＿＿＿ but I can speak English．

A．both B．either C．all D．neither

4．Neither my sister nor I ＿＿＿ good at dancing．

A．am B．are C．is D．be

5．Neither you nor Li Hua ＿＿＿ to the Great Wall before．

A．have gone B．has gone

C．has been D．have been

either 作为副词表示“也”，不同于 too，also；either 通常用

于否定句的末尾。例如：

6．He can't swim very well，I can't ＿＿＿．

A．too B．either C．neither D．nor

7．I haven't been to Beijing．He hasn't been there，＿＿．

A．too B．either C．neither

neither 作为副词表示“也不”，常常用于倒装句的开头，紧紧

跟在一个否定句后面 (nor 也可以这么用 ) 。 ( 参见“巧学倒装句”一文 )
