Larry “Moon” Thompson passed away after a prolonged battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Moon, who hosted the iconic Moon and Staci show in Minneapolis-St. Paul for 17 years left an indelible mark on the industry and touched the lives of many.

The journey of 65 year old Larry “Moon” Thompson began with MS began in 2005, a diagnosis that could have side-lined anyone else. However, Moon continued to host the show for fourteen years before retiring in 2019.

His retirement announcement revealed the toll MS had taken on his health, preventing him from doing activities he loved with his family. Despite the challenges, Moon remained resilient, stating, “Well, sometimes in life you don’t get to choose what goes on.

Close friend Doug Sprinthall took to Facebook to highlight Moon’s fierce love for his profession and remarkable endurance. Despite physical challenges, Moon remained the most positive person Sprinthall ever met, always offering encouragement. Moon’s dedication to being behind the microphone was unparalleled, with radio being the only job he ever had, aside from working on his father’s farm.

In the wake of Moon’s passing, KS95 paid a heartfelt tribute, remembering him as a big personality on the station. Moon’s contribution to radio was recognized in 2021 when he was inducted into the Minnesota Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

His positive impact extended beyond the studio as he used his voice to raise awareness and funds for MS through the Moon’s Miracle Fund to Fight MS, benefitting the MS Society of Minnesota.
