(KNWA/KFTA) – Arkansas football associate head coach and running backs coach Jimmy Smith is reportedly leaving the University of Arkansas to accept the running backs coach job at Texas Christian University per Michael Zenitz of 247 Sports. Our Otis Kirk confirmed it with a source shortly after. Smith, entering his fifth season with the Hogs, was reportedly linked to the opening early Friday afternoon. The South Carolina native was vital in the development of Raheim “Rocket” Sanders, and the Hogs power 5 leading rushing attack back in 2021. That season Arkansas rushed for 227.8 yards per game which was second in the nation. Smith is set to reunite with former Arkansas coach and current TCU offensive coordinator Kendall Briles. The two were on Sam Pittman’s coaching staff together from 2021 to 2022. Before his time on the Hill, Smith had stops at Georgia Southern as well as Cedar Grove High School in Georgia. In college, Smith was a quarterback at Tennessee State leading the Tigers to Ohio Valley Conference championships in 1997 and 1998. We’ll continue to update this story as it develops.
