still had the same problem with vga=2, so i tried vga=ask, got the:

"Press return to see video modes available"

Video adapter: VESA VGA Mode:    COLSxROWS 0  0F00    80x25 1  0F01    80x50 2  0F02    80x43 etc

I tried every single one, but still get the blank screen after about 2 mins of booting.

each mode changed the text mode display while it boots up (like the text font looks squashier), but as soon as it gets further (to the point it tries to display the GUI install I presume), the screen just flashes for a sec and goes blank

any ideas?

PS that video mode menu also had a "scan" option, which i tried, and after that it added a seventh mode, which i tried...big chunk text this time, but still blank afterwoods :(
