「etc.」是拉丁文 et cetera 的缩写，英文释义为：and other things; and so on; and so forth，即“等等”或“诸如此类”的意思，用于表示列表中的事物仍有其他未列举。例如，

I play many sports: basketball, baseball, football, etc. 我参加很多运动：篮球、棒球、足球等。 This semester, we’ll be studying commas, semicolons, colons, etc. 这个学期，我们将学习逗号、分号、冒号等。

我们不能用高速公路电子收费系统 ETC 的念法来念 「etc.」，应该读：

If you’re hungry at midnight, you can go to 7-11, FamilyMart, etc. 如果半夜饿了，你可以去7-11、全家……等等。

不要在「etc.」后面再加上“and”，因为「etc.」本身就包含了“and”的含义。

如果在句子中已经使用了 such as 或 for example 等类似的表达方式，就不需要再使用「etc.」了。
