[item], folder, Nina Lagergren slide collection, Bentley Historical Library, University of Michigan. BiographyNina Viveka Maria Lagergren was born Nina von Dardel on March 3, 1921. She was the half-sister of Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat who issued Swedish passports to Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust, saving hundreds of lives. After the Soviet troops took Budapest, Wallenberg disappeared. Lagergren was the leading force behind attempts to discover what happened to her half-brother Raoul after his disappearance. In 2000, the University of Michigan awarded Lagergren the Wallenberg Medal. In 2001, she founded the Raoul Wallenberg Academy, which she ran along with her parents and brother Guy von Dardel. Lagergren presented Sommar i P1 on Swedish Radio in 2014, an honor likened to receiving a knighthood in Sweden. Nina Lagergren died on April 5, 2019.
