What is a Clutch Slave Cylinder?

The clutch slave cylinder is connected by a fluid line to your clutch master cylinder, and receives fluid pressure from the master when the clutch pedal is depressed. This allows the slave cylinder to disengage your clutch so you can shift gears with a manual transmission. Over time, the clutch slave cylinder or seals may wear out, causing a soft clutch pedal, clutch fluid leaks, a clutch hat that won't disengage, or shifting difficulty. If your vehicle has dark or dirty clutch fluid, it may also indicate a leak somewhere in your clutch system. These symptoms may also point to a damaged clutch master cylinder or a worn clutch pressure line, so ensure a complete diagnosis before replacing your clutch master cylinder. If clutch fluid is especially dirty or if multiple components are leaking, it may be necessary to replace the clutch slave cylinder as well as the master cylinder and clutch line. It is also a good idea to bleed the clutch system when any part of the system has been replaced to ensure proper operation and safe driving.
