Most of us will be watching Super Bowl from home meaning the commentators for the 2022 will be crucial to understanding what is going on at SoFi Stadium – but who is calling the game?

As the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams are preparing for the ultimate game of their lives, another team is also gearing up for Super Bowl: The commentators.

They play a crucial role in helping fans – whether they be veterans or newbies – in understanding the action and consequences of decisions and plays.

NBC is taking live coverage for Super Bowl tonight – so let’s meet the commentators for Super Bowl LVI.

NBC’s Super Bowl commentators for the game will be made of a team of five.

Al Michaels is play-by-play announcer – calling his 11th Super Bowl.

Alongside him as in the analyst role is Cris Collinsworth – the former Bengals wide receiver of the 1980s.

Sideline reporters for NBC are Michele Tafoya and Kathryn Tappen.

The final member of the NBC commentator team for Super Bowl is rules analyst Terry McAuley.

McAuley is a three-time Super Bowl referee – so he should know the rules better than anyone.

Why is it on NBC?

By the usual rotation standard, the 2022 Super Bowl should be on CBS instead of NBC.

NBC, CBS and Fox all rotate the Super Bowl to ensure each network gets a fair shot at coverage.

It is due to the ongoing Winter Olympics in Beijing.

NBC is the rights holder for the Winter Olympics in the United States – and to get more bang for its buck – agreed a swap with CBS.

By dint, 2022 should have been a CBS year – but wanting to get more eyes on the Winter Olympics, the deal was made to swap – with CBS getting the 2021 slot.

The likes of Mike Tirico, Drew Brees and Chris Simms will all be on the pre-game coverage before NBC hands over to its commentators for the Super Bowl itself.
