→ If we want to rejoin the EU, we must properly explain why 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗔𝗖𝗥𝗢𝗦𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗨𝗞 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗡𝗢 𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗨 Seven years after the referendum, many Britons still don’t know why the EU exists, what it does, and how it’s run by the members for the benefit of members. Brexiters keep claiming that the EU is a failed project. But the truth is that most European countries are now in the EU or want to be. No member state wants to leave or is planning to leave. That’s hardly a failed project. ▪ Unfortunately, the Remain campaign, starting in May 2015, was inept, disorganised, and without a dynamic and effective strategy. ▪ Just as unfortunately, the Rejoin campaign is the same. There isn’t a proper Rejoin campaign, just as there wasn’t a proper Remain campaign. It could have been very different. We should have won the 2016 referendum without much difficulty. But the Remain side was smug, ineffective, and not at all prepared for the panzer warfare launched with such brilliant effect by the Leave campaign, albeit all based on lies, deceits and false promises. Remainers lost forty years of opportunities at awareness raising since Remain won the first referendum in 1975. For most of those forty years it didn’t seem to matter. Leaving the EU was not a mainstream call or promise of the main parties. Brexit didn’t seem at all likely, despite the lies propagated by some of our press. It was a huge shock that Leave ‘won’ the referendum – a shock to Remainers, and a shock to Leavers. We must not be caught out again. Misinformation about the EU still prevails. And there is still no effective counterattack. This could all be undone by a proper, professional campaign to explain why rejoining the EU would be in Britain’s best interests.
