通过剑桥词典的释义，我们可以看出：

Rat和Mouse最直观的区别在于 体型大小，rat是大型老鼠，mouse是小型老鼠，常见的“家鼠”就是mouse，我们熟悉的米老鼠是(Mickey Mouse)《猫和老鼠》里面的Jerry都是mouse，也就是说： rat是一种体型更大的mouse。

归纳一下，mouse和rat大致有这四种区别：mouse大家都很熟悉了，Mickey Mouse从小看到大的卡通人物。

真的mouse是指这样的老鼠，耳朵大大的，眼睛也大大的，和Mickey还有点像呢。（注：mouse是单数，mice是复数）

“鼠年”到底用 mouse 还是 rat？虽然说rat貌似带着更多的贬义，但是鼠年更常说的还是 the year of the Rat，不过也有人说成 是the year of the Mouse。

但是对于咱们中国人而言，如果非得在小耗子和大耗子里选一个，那么更大、更肥、更富态的“大耗子”（rat）恐怕更适合当中国鼠年的吉祥物吧！
