霍桑《胎记》 中的象征主义分析_英语论文An Analysis of Symbolism in Hawthorne’s The Birth-Mark摘要《胎记》 是 19 世纪著名美国小说家纳撒尼尔·霍桑所写的一部短篇小说。该小说围绕一块 “胎记” 展开,象征主义的手法的运用为这部小说增添了许多神秘色彩。胎记象征着原罪,阿尔默受科学影响想要去除它。胎记又象征着死亡,说明没有事物是完美无缺的。最后胎记象征着感性,体现了感性是人性中不可缺少的一部分。本文从原罪,死亡和感性这三个方面分析这块 “胎记”的象征意义,对于我们正确看待科学和理性以及死亡具有重要意义。关键词:胎记 象征 科学 理性 死亡AbstractThe Birth Mark is a short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne who is a famous novelist in nineteenth century. The story is unfolded by a birthmark, and the use of symbolism adds more mysterious color to the novel. The birthmark serves as original sin in the novel, thus, Aylmer who is influenced by science tries his best to remove it. The birthmark serves as the symbol of mortality, which indicates no one is perfect. What’s more, the birthmark serves as the symbol of sensibility which means it is a noble quality which cannot be separated from human beings. Analyzing the story from three different symbolic meanings of “the birthmark” has an important significance for us to have a correct view of science, reason and death.Key Words: The Birth Mark symbolism original sin mortality sensibility
