先来看第一句，He swept the floor with his jacket，swept是sweep的过去式，打扫，清扫的意思，男孩用他的夹克扫了一下地板，and lay down, using the book he had just finished reading as a pillow，lay 是lie的过去式，lay down，躺下来，那躺下来干什么呢？

he had just finished reading是修饰前面的the book，using the book he had just finished reading as a pillow，原来啊，男孩把一本他刚读完的书用来做枕头躺下来了。

第二句，He told himself that，他告诉他自己，he would have to start reading thicker books，thicker是thick的比较级，thicker books是更厚的书，they lasted longer, and made more comfortable pillows. 原来男孩的意思是说，他想读更厚一点的书，这样用来做枕头也更舒服一些。

那通过原文，我们知道枕头的英文是Pillow，它是一个可数名词，one pillow，two pillows，我们举两个例子来更好地掌握它。
