托尼•克拉格是极具影响力的英国著名雕塑家，也是英国当代艺术界的领军人物。1949年出生于英国利物浦，现生活、工作于德国伍珀塔尔，现任德国杜塞尔多夫艺术学院院长。托尼•克拉格曾于1988年获得英国最重要的艺术家大奖——特纳奖(Turner Prize)，并于当年代表英国参加威尼斯双年展。2002年获皮蓬布鲁克雕塑奖 (Piepenbrock Award)。2007年获得日本皇家世界文化奖。2008年，他主持兴建的雕塑公园在伍珀塔尔落成。

在长达30 多年的艺术生涯中，托尼在全世界巡展，近年来曾举办过“托尼•克拉格”（苏格兰国立美术馆，爱丁堡，苏格兰，2011）等个展，2011 年1月他在巴黎卢浮宫举办个展，成为首位在此举办个展的在世的艺术家。作品还参加过“鲁道夫•斯坦纳和当代艺术”（DOX当代艺术中心，布拉格，捷克，2011），“美丽新世界”（MUDAM，卢森堡，2010）和“第3届莫斯科双年展”（莫斯科，俄罗斯，2009 年）等重要群展。2011年9月应邀参加 “CAFAM泛主题展：超有机/一个独特研究视角和实验”及系列活动，拉开与中央美术学院美术馆合作的序幕。

托尼的作品既有几何的理性美感，又带给观者充满幻想和诗意的审美境界，常被认为有取代亨利•摩尔之势。托尼•克拉格在雕塑作品的材质和制作工艺上的无穷想象力，一定程度上来源于他早期的科学实验生涯。他总是对各种材质及工艺充满好奇，并不断测试，最终找出哪一种材质和工艺最能使作品浑然天成；城市垃圾，废弃的塑料，金属，各种容器等在他的作品中都可以化腐朽为神奇。这也是托尼•克拉格贯穿整个职业生涯中最为显著的特点。

此次在中央美术学院美术馆的个展，将展出托尼雕塑作品50件以及包括草稿、水彩等在内的纸本作品127件。作品创作时间涵盖了托尼早期创作和近期创作，更有获得“特纳奖”的 “Minster”(1998)、“Bent of Mind”(2002)、“Declination”(2004)等经典之作。

此行是托尼•克拉格第一次在中国举办展览，并将在北京，上海和成都三个城市巡展。本次展览的作品由托尼•克拉格亲自挑选，展出其过去15年的主要作品，共176件/组，其中雕塑作品49件/组、包括草稿、水彩等在内的纸本作品127件。展览除将在中央美术学院美术馆三层空间展示全部纸本及大部分雕塑作品外，还将有5件大型雕塑作品布置于美术馆户外空间，利用外墙、草坪和建筑的弧形结构营造出特别的氛围。

“托尼•克拉格：雕塑与绘画展”是2012年“艺述英国”大型艺术节的旗舰项目，为艺术节在中国的举办打响头炮。“艺述英国”是迄今为止在中国举办的规模最大的英国艺术节。为了庆祝伦敦奥运会和纪念中英建交40周年，“艺述英国”旨在把中英两国的艺术机构、艺术家和艺术爱好者们更紧密地联系在一起。2012年4月至11月，“艺述英国”将在中国的17个城市举办数百场活动，以展览、音乐会、演出和教育培训计划来呈现英国最高水准的艺术和创意。

Tony Cragg sculptures and drawings

Tony Cragg came to prominence in the late 1970s for his works composed of brightly coloured plastic objects. Focusing mainly on his work from the past 15 years, this exhibition features around 50 major sculptures and over 100 drawings.

This exhibition was first staged in the summer of 2011 at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh. Although Cragg has shown individual works in China, this is the first opportunity for a Chinese audience to explore his work in depth.

Cragg has personally selected the works featured in this exciting exhibition himself and include both indoor and outdoor pieces, such as three of his most recent works; Companions, Manipulation and Versus. They were received with great enthusiasm in Texas, USA, in January this year. About Tony Cragg and his inspiration Born in Liverpool in 1949, Cragg began his career as a laboratory assistant, helping to test, manipulate and develop different types of rubber. Meanwhile, he was also studying art and began to use drawing to understand the experiments in the laboratory. Gradually, these drawings came to have more significance for him than the experiments themselves.

Cragg’s background in science partly informed his imaginative approach to making sculptures. His work reflects an intense curiosity that has driven him to create, test, push and pull materials, to see what each one does most naturally: this has been a defining characteristic of Cragg’s work throughout his career. Cragg’s exhibitions have been toured extensively across Europe and the USA for thirty-five years.
