考试或者面试的时候说“这个人pass了”

到底是过了？还是没过呢？

今天学习一下pass的用法吧！

pass到底是过了还是没过？

Pass做及物动词，有个意思特指“考/面试通过”，

Pass the exam 通过考试

pass the interview 通过面试

1. 通过考试或测试

中文解释： 成功完成考试或测试，达到或超过合格分数。

英文例句：

I passed the English proficiency test with a score of 90. (我以 90 分的成绩通过了英语水平考试。)

She passed all her classes with flying colors. (她所有科目都取得了优异成绩。)

2. 通过面试

中文解释： 在面试中表现出色，获得晋级下一轮面试或工作机会的机会。

英文例句：

I passed the first round of interviews and am now waiting to hear back about the second round. (我通过了第一轮面试，现在正在等待第二轮面试的结果。)

She passed her job interview and was offered the position. (她通过了面试并获得了工作机会。)

根据牛津高阶词典，Pass作不及物动词时

有“不知道，跳过”的含义，所以“I'll pass”

就代表"过；不知道；不要"

例句：'What's the capital of Peru?' 'I'll have to pass on that one.' "秘鲁的首都是哪里？" "过。"

例句：'Who wrote 'Catch-22'?' 'Pass (= I don't know).'

"谁写了《第二十二条军规》？" "不知道。"

~(on something)to say that you do not want something that is offered to you不要；免掉

例句：Thanks. I'm going to pass on dessert, if you don't mind. 谢谢，您若不介意，我就免了饭后甜点吧。

Pass”既有“通过”，也有“不通过”的意思

“面试被pass了”这种就属于中式的散装英语，

容易造成误解。

想表达“没通过”的意思，

可以用don't pass 或者 fail（失败）来表达

例：The examiners failed over half the candidates.

主考人员评定，半数以上报考者不及格。

英语里，还有一些容易产生歧义的表达，

比如下面这个

Thanks but no thanks

这句话的大意是：谢谢你，但是不用了

简单来说就是“No ,thanks”的委婉用法

用于礼貌地拒绝一个提议、邀请或建议。

它表达了对提议的感谢，

同时又委婉地表示不接受。

使用示例：

场景：朋友邀请你共进午餐。

A friend offers to buy you lunch.

回复：“Thanks but no thanks，我已经有午餐计划了。”

场景：同事邀请你参加下班后的聚会。

A colleague invites you to join them for after-work drinks.

回复：“Thanks but no thanks，我今晚有点累。也许下次吧。”

场景：销售人员向你推销促销产品。

A salesperson approaches you with a promotional offer.

回复：“Thanks but no thanks，我现在对这个产品不感兴趣。”

替代表达：

虽然 “thanks but no thanks” 是一种通用且广泛使用的短语，但还有其他一些礼貌地拒绝提议的方式：

“I appreciate the offer, but I'm going to have to pass.”

“Thank you for thinking of me, but I'm afraid I won't be able to make it.”

“That's very kind of you, but I'll have to decline.”

“I'm grateful for the suggestion, but I'll have to say no.”
