Guided Support is available! You can use our fun interactive tool for help with this topic  -- OR --  continue with the article below. Before you start Use the supplied USB cable if your camera has one.If the camera isn't supplied with a USB cable, you can purchase a commercially available cable that supports your camera connection (USB Type-C™, for example). Symptoms

To import images and movies from your camera to your computer, connect the two using a USB cable. After doing so, a folder should appear on your computer where you can transfer the files. If you're having trouble with the connection, here are some common symptoms:

On a Microsoft® Windows® operating system, the camera's disk drive won't be visible under the "Computer" or "This PC" section on your desktop. On an Apple® Mac® OS X® operating system, the icon for "NONAME" or "Untitled" may not appear on your desktop. Troubleshooting

Follow the steps if the computer doesn't recognize the camera or an error message appears.

Make sure the battery pack is sufficiently charged and check the USB connection after each step. Depending on the camera model, the displayed content or settings method may differ. Refer to the instruction manual for your camera.

For Apple® computers

Refer to the If a USB device doesn’t work with Mac® article. To find out what ports are available on your Apple computer, refer to the Identify the ports on your Mac article. For information on the Apple port types, refer to the Adapters for the Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, or USB Type-C™ port on your Mac article.Refer to the Use USB-C cables with Mac article for specific adapters needed to connect your camera.

For all computers

Check the USB cable.

Depending on your camera model, use the supplied USB cable or purchase a compatible, commercially available cable.

If using the supplied cable, the words Sony Corp. will be printed on the cable. If you purchase a commercially available USB cable from another manufacturer, use a USB-standard-compliant cable with USB 2.0 or higher and data transfer capability. Check the USB cable specifications to be sure the cable can support charging and data transfers.Try a different USB cable, making sure it supports charging and data transfers.

Check the USB ports and memory card.

Make sure the USB ports on both the camera and computer are not dusty or dirty. Use a soft, dry cloth to remove any dust or debris. Make sure the memory card is properly inserted into the camera. This step isn't needed if you want to retrieve images from a camera with internal memory.Turn the camera on and connect the USB cable to the camera and computer. Make sure that the connections are tight and secure.

Notes: If your camera has a USB Type-C terminal, you can transfer images faster if you use a USB 3.1 compatible USB Type-C cable. If your computer only has a USB Type-C port, a USB conversion adapter is required.

USB Type A and C

A gap will remain between the camera's USB terminal and the USB cable once inserted.

If the computer doesn't recognize the camera even after performing the operations above, check the following: If the computer and the camera are connected via a USB hub, connect the USB cable directly to the USB port of the computer.Connect the camera to a USB port on the computer that has already recognized a mouse or other device.Try to connect the camera to other USB ports on the computer.

Confirm the camera settings.

Note: Depending on the model, the displayed content or setting method may differ. For details, refer to your instruction manual.

Check your computer.

For a Microsoft Windows computer: If the USB Connection and USB LUN settings are as advised in Step #3, then once you connect the camera to the computer: Type File Explorer in the Search Bar on the Taskbar.Select File Explorer to open.If connecting properly, a window will display with the camera as a USB Drive.Selecting the USB Drive opens the window to view or import images and movies:

Note: For a Microsoft Windows computer with PlayMemories Home installed:

If you set the USB Connection of your camera to MTP, the message To use (camera model) with PlayMemories Home, the USB operation mode must be changed. Do you want to continue? appears. Select Yes to import images using PlayMemories Home.

If the issue still occurs, restart your computer.

Check if another computer recognizes the camera. If you have another computer, try connecting the camera to it. If the other computer recognizes the camera, there may be a problem with the original computer. Consult the computer manufacturer for further assistance.
