美国弗吉尼亚大学哲学教授，研究领域包括科学哲学、形而上学和认识论。他目前的研究兴趣包括突现的形而上学与认识论、计算机科学、经验主义与现实主义以及策略研究。他已经出版了大量的著作和学术论文。他是《牛津科学哲学研究》系列丛书主编，也是《美国哲学季刊》、《科学哲学》和《科学基础》杂志的编委。他的著作《延长的万物之尺——计算科学、经验主义与科学方法》已翻译成中文出版，《突现》即将翻译成中文在人民出版社出版。

Paul Humphreys is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Virginia, specializing in Philosophy of Science, Metaphysics, and Epistemology. His current research interests include Metaphysics and Epistemology of Emergence, Computer Science, Empiricism and Realism, as well as Strategic Studies. He published a substantial number of books and scholarly articles, serving as Series Editor of the Oxford Studies in the Philosophy of Science, and editorial board member of the American Philosophy Quarterly, Philosophy of Science and Foundations of Science. His book Extending Ourselves: Computational Science, Empiricism and Scientific Method has been published in Chinese, and his book Emergence: A Philosophical Account will soon be published by the People's Publishing House.
