这次题为“水月镜花”的Ciné-Concert是法国钢琴家Thierry Maillard现场一人一琴,加上影像共同呈现《Tears of Rain》专辑当中的诗艺表达。

蒂埃里·梅拉德(Thierry Maillard)发行的首张个人独奏专辑是他亲自操刀创作演绎。这位难以被轻易归类的钢琴家——一个比尔·埃文斯(Bill Evans)的永恒追随者,巴赫、莫扎特与巴托克的忠实粉丝——希望利用这次创作的机会反思自己作为爵士音乐家的身份。他既不抛弃传统,也不拒绝当下,以及风格交融的更多可能。在这张专辑中,他触达了极深的维度、开辟了全新的视野。在旋律的牵引之下,他的音乐带领听众来到一个纯粹的感性空间。简洁,纯粹,直达本质。

Thierry Maillard signs his first solo album in his own compositions. This pianist more than ever unclassifiable, eternal mad in love with Bill Evans but not less Bach, Mozart or Bartok, takes the opportunity to question his identity as a jazz musician. Without forgetting anything about the past or not forbidding himself for the here and mixing, Thierry Maillard opens in this album of rare depth new horizons where melody is queen, where his compositions take us to the field of pure emotion. Simply and skinning, to get better to the essentials.

First, an image: a musician’s painting facing his piano and his scores, as facing himself. As a man can be a little lost between two trains or two loves would land facing the sea. The light-dark portrait of a single man standing there to seek in silence and the great spaces of solitude answers to his questions, which would also be ours.

In this new opus - the eighteenth of a discography, yet a little avaricious in twists - Thierry Maillard will surprise those who thought they knew him by drawing a series of twelve tracks in the form of songs without words. “Tears of rain” entirely from the pianist’s pen plunges the listener into a world of dreameries and sound confidences, shimmering memories, faces, perfumes and buried melancholy.

Always on the thread of emotion where the “singing” of the piano leads the musical game, appearing in turn the clothes of a pudic waltz rhythm, a nostalgic ostinato or miniatures in raveline reminiscences.

The music then risks candour, but without mannerism or mannerism, knowing how to be simple and tender, but without ease or platitude.

Dare to bare without denying anything of his modesty: a dangerous game in which Thierry Maillard takes pleasure in playing the balanciers on the thread of emotion, in chiseled compositions, highly melodic, where pianistic exhibition and the brilliance of improvisation no longer seem to be the subjects at all.

And in the middle his music flows

Thierry Maillard’s music doubles alone in front of his piano and in front of his compositions unfolds in streams between the two sides of his musical history.

Between two landscapes, two reliefs.

On the one hand, the world of melody, the world that leads the world and knows how to talk to us about love, the one that makes hearts and souls capsized.

And on another steeper side, the world of classical composers Thierry Maillard reveres, from Bach to Bartok, from Mozart to Chopin.

Where music knows how to go to the essentials, without artifice, set in a perfect form. The glows of jazz are moving away.

The blue of tormented nights gives to the white of the soft clouds of a summer evening... In this new musical world that Thierry Maillard invents before our eyes, never seems to have said “I” with so much truth, clarity and depth. But if he says “I” it is to better address us by choosing the “You”... As in a noble and sentimental waltz.
