很多同学都用了chance和opportunity来表达“机会”，那么到底哪个才是合适呢？

1、Chance 它有一个意思是“概率”，也就是结果有不确定性。 比如： There's a chance of meeting my Mr. Right today.  今天我可能会遇到我的白马王子。（意思是可能会遇到，可能不会遇到。）

但是这个时候就不能说：

There's an opportunity of  meeting my Mr. Right today. ❌  (opportunity表示原本就想遇到，在人为的刻意安排下有了机会，让心愿成真。）

再比如： I think there is a chance that he will say yes.  他有可能会同意。（也就是说是可能会同意，也可能不同意。）

大家试着翻译这句话：这是你的机会。

翻译：This is your only chance. 

Chance另一个意思是机会，机遇，跟opportunity很像。

2、Opportunity 意思是机会，机遇。通常用来表示一个积极的，用来表现自己的机遇，或者是可以让你成功的机会或者时机，或者是做一件事比较容易的时机。

比如： I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel. 我很幸运有这个旅行机会。

大家试着翻译这个句子：我得抓住这个机会跟奥巴马合照。

翻译：I have to take the opportunity to take a picture with Obama.
