文章編號：V31-01 在許多英文檢定的文章閱讀內，非常講究單字量，而想要學好英文單字，其中一個最好的方式就是透過單字字首學習 只要掌握好英文單字字首的變化，很快就能將更多單字囊括到腦海裡，不論是對未來考取全民英檢、多益等等，都將會很有幫助。

averse (adj.) 這字的關鍵含義是轉身離開．為什麼要轉身離開呢？想必心情是厭惡的，故這形容詞的意思是「厭惡的」 aversion (n) 厭惡 E.g.: Jim is averse to using chemicals in the garden.「Jim討厭在花園裡用化學物質．」 E.g.: Despite his aversion to publicity, Arnold was persuaded to talk to the press. 「儘管討厭公開亮相，阿諾還是被說服了在媒體前說話．」 * 提醒：這裡的to是介系詞，不是不定詞用法，所以接N或Ving唷 avert (v) 這字的關鍵意思一樣是轉身離開，故此動詞的意思有「轉移（目光」或「防止（某事）發生」之意 E.g.: Henry averted his eyes as she undressed. 「當她寬衣時，亨利撇開目光．」 E.g.: The tragedy could have been averted if the crew had followed safety procedures.   「如果機組人員也按照安全程序操作，這場悲劇是可以防止的．」 ＊這例句恰恰就是與過去事實相反的假設語氣句構，若你對假設語氣不了解的話，請參考G15系列文章。

abstract (adj.) (n) 這字的關鍵含義是拉遠離某物，是遠離什麼呢？當形容詞用時，姑且想像是遠離具體的東西吧，那麼意思是指拉遠離具體的東西，就是表達「抽象的」．當名詞用時，姑且想像是從一篇文章中抽離出一段概要，那麼意思就是「概要 摘錄」 abstraction (n) 抽象觀念  這字另外也有「心不在焉」之意，心神被拉走了，也是符合拉遠離某物的意象 E.g.: By the age of seven, children are capable of thinking in abstract terms. 「在七歲之前，小孩子已經能抽象思考．」 E.g.: A call for papers has been issued and the deadline for abstracts is 4 May 1992.  「已經開始徵求論文，提交節錄的最後期限是1992年5月4日．」 E.g.: She rocked the baby gently, gazing in abstraction at the flickering fire. 「她輕搖著小孩，心不在焉地凝視著燃燒中的爐火．」
