有些人表達能力有問題，說話經常讓人「黑人問號」，當你遇到這種人，除了說 “I don’t understand”，還有那些英文句子可以用來表示你不明白他說的話?

“I don’t get it” 裡的 “it” 是指對方說的話，”I don’t get it” 在字面上的意思大概是「我接收不到你說的話的意思」，也就是你聽不懂他說甚麼，這是一個比較口語化的說法喔。

(1)A: If you add A to B and then subtract C from the total, you’ll get D.A: 你把A和B加起來，然後減去C，你就會得到D。

B: I don’t get it!B: 我不明白!

在某些情況下， “I don’t get it” 不是表示你聽不懂對方說甚麼，而是表示你不懂他爲甚麼這樣說。

(2)A: We should book a nice hotel and go away for the weekend.A: 我們應該找家好飯店去度週末。

B: I don’t get it. I thought we were trying to save as much money as we can so that we can pay back our student loans.B: 我不懂呢，我們不是要積極存錢，還清我們的學貸嗎?

“I don’t follow [you]” 在字面上是「我跟不上[你]」的意思，也就是你聽不懂對方的話。

(3)A: Where are you?A: 你在哪裡?

B: I think I’m lost. I can’t find your house.B: 我迷路，找不到你家。

A: Did you drive past a church?A: 你有經過一家教堂嗎?

B: Yes, I drove past one five minutes ago.B: 有，我五分鐘前經過一家教堂。

A: Ok, here’s how you get here. Turn left at the church and you’ll see an intersection. Take the left road and then make a right at the next intersection. My house will be on your left.A: 好，我教你怎麼走。在教堂左轉，你會看到一個十字路口，走左邊那條路，然後在下一個十字路口轉右，我家會在你的左邊。

B: I don’t follow! Why don’t I wait for you at the church?!B: 我聽不懂! 我直接在教堂等你啦!

“I’m not following [you]“ 跟 “I don’t follow [you]” 一樣。

“I’m not sure I understand” 在字面上是「我不確定我明白」的意思，這根本就是轉彎抹角的說 “I don’t understand”「我不明白」嘛。

(4)A: Sfdsf afiwehla dfpwerljl dsfa. You know what I’m saying, right?A: [一堆火星文]… 你懂吧?

B: I’m not sure I understand a word.B: 我連一個字也聽不懂。

(5)A: John’s mother is Alice’s aunt who is also the niece of Peter’s dad. That makes Peter the uncle of John and Alice.A: John的媽媽是Alice的阿姨，也是Peter爸爸的外甥女，所以算起來Peter是John和Alice的叔叔。

B: Wow! I’m not sure I understand.B: 哇! 完全不懂。

“What do you mean?” 是「你是甚麼意思?」 的意思，以問話的方式來表示你聽不懂。

(6)A: If we want to keep our jobs, we better not say anything bad about Jason in front of our boss.A: 如果我們不想被炒魷魚，我們千萬別在老闆面前說Jason的壞話。

B: What do you mean?B: 你在說甚麼?

A: Jason is the boss’ illegitimate son.A: Jason 是老闆的私生子。

B: WHAT?!B: 甚麼?!

如果你好像有點明白對方的說話，但是又不是很肯定，你可以用以下的方式跟對方確認你的認知。

(7)A: I have a meeting with Mr. Smith at ABC company tomorrow morning and may not be back in time for our weekly meeting. If I’m not back by the meeting time, I’ll definitely be back before it ends.A: 明天早上我要跟 ABC 公司的 Mr. Smith 開會，可能趕不上我們的週會。如果我幹不及，我會在週會結束前回來。

B: Does that mean we should start the meeting without you?B: 意思是我們不用等你開會?

或者

B: Do you mean we should start the meeting without you?B: 你的意思是我們不用等你開會?

或者

B: If I understand correctly, you want us to start the meeting without you.B: 如果我理解正確，你想我們不等你就開會。
