Final Thoughts on my Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern Roundup

You will find that all the quick baby blanket crochet patterns listed here are designed using Bernat Blanket yarn. The thickness of this squishy yarn is what makes these baby blankets really fast to work up.

Feel free to substitute it with any other chunky yarn. You can even substitute it with a worsted weight yarn to make a lighter weight blanket. I give the chain multiples at the beginning of all my blanket patterns so you can adapt it for any yarn weight.

What is the Best Crochet Stitch for a Baby Blanket?

The best crochet stitch for a blanket depends on a lot of different factors, the thickness of your yarn and the design you prefer. Do you like it thick with no holes or do you want it light and lacy?

For beginners, a simple double crochet stitch will be a great place to start. Here is a list of 7 simple stitches that will work great for blankets. You can look up YouTube videos for these stitches.

1. V-st

2. Granny Stitch

3. Moss Stitch

4. Suzette Stich

5. Cluster Stitch

6. Blanket Stitch

7. Shell Stitch

What is the Best Size for a Crochet Baby Blanket?

Baby blankets come in a multitude of sizes. A baby blanket can range from a small square to a large rectangle. Based on the purpose or age of the baby, the size can vary. There are 8 different sizes commonly used for babies. You can download a size chart below:

How to Resize a Crochet Blanket Pattern?

There are many ways you can change the size of a blanket. You can switch to a bigger or smaller hook or switch to a thicker or thinner yarn. If you use a smaller hook or thinner yarn, your blanket will get smaller.

Using a bigger hook will make your stitches larger and hence your blanket bigger. A smaller hook on the other hand will make tighter stitches and result in a smaller crochet baby blanket.

The best way to resize a blanket is to adjust the number of repeats. That way you have more control over how big your finished blanket will be.

Crochet a gauge swatch to calculate how many stitches per inch you get with the yarn and hook combination you plan to use. All patterns will generally tell you how to make a gauge swatch or tell you the initial chain multiple.

If you need a bigger baby blanket, add more repeats based on the number of repeats per inch. To go smaller, take away repeats.
