This article provides information to help troubleshoot and steps to disable different features that may cause your Android TV™ or Google TV™ to turn on or off automatically. Follow the instructions according to the symptom of your TV to resolve the issue. Note: Not all TVs have the settings listed below or the menu items may vary. Check your TV manuals for model-specific information. TV turns on automaticallyDisable On timer Open the Settings screen according to your TV remote options: Press the Quick settings button, then select Settings.Press the HOME button, then select Settings. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options: Select Timers → Timer.Select On timer → On timer.Select Timers → On timer → On timer.Select Apps → Timers → On timer → On timer. Make sure the timer is off.Change the Auto TV on or TV auto power on setting to off using the BRAVIA Sync or HDMI CEC settings Open the Settings screen according to your TV remote options: Press the Quick settings button, then select Settings.Press the HOME button, then select Settings. The next steps depend on your TV menu options: Select Channels & Inputs → External inputs → HDMI CEC Settings, BRAVIA Sync control, or BRAVIA Sync settings.Select Watching TV → External Inputs → HDMI CEC Setting or BRAVIA Sync settings.Select BRAVIA Settings → External Inputs → HDMI CEC Settings → CEC.Select External Inputs → BRAVIA Sync settings. Select either Auto TV on, TV auto power on, or Device auto power off.Set to Off.Set the Remote Start setting to off using Network or BRAVIA settings Open the Settings screen according to your TV remote options: Press the Quick settings button, then select Settings.Press the HOME button, then select Settings. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options: Select Network & Internet → Remote Start.Select Network → Remote Start.Select BRAVIA Settings → Remote Start. Set to Off.Additional troubleshooting Make sure the remote control is not accidentally being pressed.Disconnect any USB devices, a USB mouse or keyboard could wake up the TV.Consider smart home devices (Alexa/Google Home). Using a voice remote control or smart speaker may react to everyday conversations by mistake and cause the TV to turn on or off. Change smart device settings as needed.Consider if Cast or Airplay had been used. Check your Recently opened apps on the TV. Note: These steps may vary depending on your TV menu options. Check your TV manuals for specific details.Check if the time on the recently opened apps matches the time the TV was turned on. Some apps are capable of waking up the TV. If you have recent apps used about the time the TV turned on, try turning off the notifications for these apps: Open the Settings screen according to your TV remote options: Press the (Quick settings) button, then select Settings.Press the HOME button, then select Settings. Select Apps.Under Recently opened apps, locate and select the app that was used close to the time the TV turned on.Scroll down and select Notifications. Select to make sure the toggle for notifications is not enabled.Exit the menu and see if the changes make a difference. Note: If the issue continues, try uninstalling the recent app suspected of turning on your TV. Until changes are made to the app, this issue may continue while the app's installed. Update the TV software. Downloads are posted on your model support page. TV turns off automaticallyCheck the Daydream or Screen saver settings Note: Not all models will have these features and settings. Check your manual if model-specific information is needed. Set the When to Sleep or Put device to sleep settings to Never. Open the Settings screen according to your TV remote options: Press the Quick settings button, then select Settings.Press the HOME button, then select Settings. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options: Select Device Preferences → Screen saver → Put device to sleep → Never.Select Screen saver → Put device to sleep → Never.Select Daydream → When to sleep → Never. Set the Daydream or Screen saver setting to Backdrop or Colors. Note: Skip this step if Backdrop or Colors is not in your TV menu Open the Settings screen according to your TV remote options: Press the Quick settings button, then select Settings.Press the HOME button, then select Settings. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options: Select Device Preferences → Screen saver → Screen saver.Select Screen saver → Screen saver.Select Daydream → Daydream. Set to Backdrop or Colors Note: To prevent screen burn-in, when the Daydream or Screen saver is set to Sleep or None, the TV goes into sleep mode after the specified time period set for When to Daydream or When to start. This function still works even if When to Sleep or Put device to sleep are set to Never. However, it doesn't activate when a program or movie is playing on the TV.Set the Sleep timer, Idle TV standby, and Auto shut-off to off Note: Not all models will have these features and settings. Check your manual if model-specific information is needed. Set Sleep timer to off. Press the Quick settings button (if available with your remote) or the HOME button on your remote.The next steps will depend on your TV menu options: Select Sleep timer → Off.Select Timers → Sleep timer → Off.Select Apps → Timers → Sleep timer → Off. Set Idle TV standby to off. Note: Depending on the model, the Auto shut-off function may also need to be turned off. Open the Settings screen according to your TV remote options: Press the Quick settings button, then select Settings.Press the HOME button, then select Settings. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options: Select Device Preferences → Power → Idle TV standby → Off.Select BRAVIA settings → Eco → Idle TV standby → Off.Select Power → Eco → Idle TV standby → Off.Select System → Power & Energy → Idle TV power off → Off.Select System → Power & Energy → Energy Saver → Turn Off TV After → Never. Set Auto shut-off to off. Note: Not all models have an Auto shut-off setting. Check your manual for model-specific information. Open the Settings screen according to your TV remote options: Press the Quick settings button, then select Settings.Press the HOME button, then select Settings. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options: Select Device Preferences → Power → Auto shut-off → Off.Select BRAVIA settings → Eco → Auto shut-off → Off.Select System → Power and Energy → Auto shut-off → Off.Additional troubleshooting Disconnect all external devices from the TV (USB, LAN connection, HDMI® connection, Antenna, etc.) except the power cord and turn the TV on. If the TV turns on and stays on, reconnect the devices one at a time until you find the device that's causing the issue. |
