Li Shifeng stunned Shi Yuqi in the men's singles final at the 2023 All England Open on Sunday (19 March) to claim his first BWF Tour Super 1000 title.

Shi won six consecutive points to lead 8-3, but the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games gold medallist clawed his way back to level at 17-17 before going 20-18 ahead.

The 2018 champion had the better of two net exchanges to save both game points, and showed remarkable reflexes to save two more against his compatriot from the People's Republic of China.

Then it was Li's turn to save two game points, the second thanks to a superb full-length retrieval. And when Shi sent a lift long, Li had taken the opening game 26-24.

But the second game was one-sided with Shi woefully out of sorts. Li, making his All England debut, was brimming with confidence and needed just 17 minutes to wrap it up 21-5 and win the world's oldest badminton tournament.

An Se-young ended Republic of Korea's 27-year-wait for an All England women's singles champion with victory over Chen Yufei.

The 21-year-old, who lost to Yamaguchi Akane in last year's final, showed little sign of fatigue from her epic semi-final win over Tai Tzu Ying as she went into a 5-1 lead in the opening game.

Back came the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist to level at 11-11, but An took it 21-17.

With the drift in her favour in the second game, China's 2019 winner took charge as she turned an 11-7 lead into a decisive 21-10 margin.

An, who had looked tired in the second game, came out firing in the decider before Chen pulled it back to 17-17.

But the Korean won the next three points to set up match point, and converted at the third time of asking to seal victory 21-17, 10-21, 21-19 in an hour and 15 minutes.

Ahsan gesture allows Alfian/Ardianto their winning moment

The women's doubles title went to Korean pair Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong with China's top seeds Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong taking the mixed doubles.

Men's doubles top seeds Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto beat fellow Indonesians Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan 21-17, 21-14 with Ahsan injuring his left knee just before match point.

The umpire announced that the younger of 'The Daddies' had retired, but reversed that seconds later as the 35-year-old opted to retake the court and allow his compatriots to complete victory.
