只想说：

时间过得太快了。

今年的政府工作报告，作为翻译的我们发现，英文译本相比以前， “接地气”了不少。

除了把所有 “基层”翻译成“ primary level”（原来的“ grassroots level ”则颇有种 “草根”之既视感），我们还发现大名鼎鼎的 “双创” - “大众创业、万众创新”，默默地有了新译法：“ business startups and innovation ”。

而之前，双创的英译，约定俗称是：“ mass entrepreneurship and mass innovation ”。

这个“双创”概念，最早是总理在2014年9月的夏季达沃斯论坛上提出来的：

“借改革创新的“东风”，在960万平方公里土地上掀起“大众创业”“草根创业”的新浪潮，形成“万众创新”“人人创新”的新态势。”

When reform and innovation fuels the massive wave of entrepreneurship by the people and at the grassroots level on the land of the 9.6 million square kilometers of China, a new pattern of innovation by the people and innovation by all will be fostered.

鲁迅说：“ 世上本没有路，走着走着，也就便成了路。”

对某些专业术语、slogan提法也是一样 - “ 英文本来不存在一对一的对应，但说着说着，也就成了固定的说法。”

mass这个词，要是在谷歌里搜mass对应的image（图片），出来的都是教堂的“弥撒”图。的确，mass这个词颇有宗教含义。

“ a lage number of people crowded together”，这就是mass的最初含义。“弥撒”，是拉丁语missa的音译，本意就是“ 聚会、聚集”。

所以，mass + innovation/entrepreneurship，可以说是专门为了“双创”创作出来的一个说法。直到现在，在native的一些rhetoric里面，我们鲜少看到这样的搭配和表达。倒是有一个境外的咨询公司名为dalberg，用了mass entrepreneurship这个词，不过目测，他们是因为先从中国听到了这个表达：

但前面说了：“ 说的人多了，也就成了约定俗成”。

但当然， mass innovation/entrepreneurship 能用，前提就是，听者要提前对中国国情有个大概的了解。或者至少，要有上下文烘托这个语境。

而对于第一次听“双创”的朋友来说，或许 business startups and innovation 更为合适。毕竟，这更为接地气，虽然没有文字上的一一对仗，但意思上却比 mass innovation/entrepreneurship 更为精准和到位。
