Physiology[]
Nidoran♀ is a small, rabbit-shaped Pokémon with large whiskers and front teeth. It is said to resemble Nidoran♂, but is lavender-bluish and has a much smaller horn on her head. She has darker spots on her body.
Behavior[]
These small Pokémon are extremely timid and docile.Nidoran♀ are easily spooked, and it is not at all difficult to accidentally be scratched by a fleeing individual. If cornered, however, Nidoran♀ will defend themselves with their horns. It is rare to find a lone Nidoran♀, as they are very social Pokémon that are almost never seen without elder Nidorina and Nidoqueen, or at the very least sibling Nidoran♂, accompanying them. In fact, the vast majority of documented cases of Nidoran♀ poisonings have been attributed to skittish and scared wild individuals attacking out of sheer terror after having been separated from their families. Females have more sensitive nostrils and whiskers than males; they are quicker to detect predators because of this and will stay downwind when they sense one.
Natural abilities[]
She has the ability Poison Point that allows a 30% chance of the foe being poisoned if hit by a direct attack.
Evolution[]
Nidoran♀ evolves into Nidorina at level 17. In Generation I, Nidoran♀ evolves into Nidorina at level 16. Nidorina evolves into Nidoqueen by use of a Moon Stone.

Appearances[]
Anime[]
Goh's Nidoran♀.
Emily had a Nidoran♀ that evolved into a Nidorina in Wherefore Art Thou, Pokémon?.
Goh owns a Nidoran♀ that he caught in PJ020.
Trivia[]
Nidoran♀'s shiny color appears to be Nidoran♂'s regular color.
Despite lacking genders in Generation I, Nidoran♀ and Nidoran♂ were completely different species.
Nidoran♀ is one of the ten Pokémon to have a non-alphabetical character in its name, along with Nidoran♂, Farfetch'd, Mr. Mime, Ho-Oh, Porygon2, Mime Jr., Porygon-Z, Flabébé, and Sirfetch'd.
Nidoran♀ is the only Pokémon to lose the ability to breed after it evolves.
Origin[]
Nidoran♀ is mostly based on small mammalian animals, mainly mice, rabbits, or porcupines. It may also be based on some venomous mammals, mainly the insectivore types. The two Nidorans altogether seem to be based on the concept of sexual dimorphism in which two genders of the same animal species have two very different appearances.
Etymology[]
Nidoran♀ may come from cnidocyte (a type of cell responsible for the venom in stinging animals) and ran (orchid in Japanese, orchids can be either blue or purple, just like the colors of the two Nidorans). It may also derive from needle. ♀ signifies it being an only-female species.
