我们在翻译合同的时候，经常会遇到as of这个词，如果不结合上下文，真的拿捏不准它到底该翻译成什么意思。as of作为表达时间的词，通常有三种翻译：(1)自......起（相当于as from）；(2)在......时候；(3)截至......。

分析：很显然这里选择第(1)个和第(3)个意思都是不合适的。

例句三： In the event that available vacation is not used as of the end of the benefit year, employees may not carry unused time forward to the next benefit year. Conversely ifemployees have used more vacation time than they earned throughout the benefit year the employee will repay the difference.如果截至当年年末，员工尚有假期未休完，员工不得将未使用的假期转到下一年度。相反，如果员工在当前年度使用的假期超过其有权享有的天数，多出天数，员工将在此后年度作相应扣减。

分析：这里的as of 相当于by，因此翻译为“截至”更为恰当。
