SolarBalls is a YouTube channel created by Peruvian animator Alvaro Calmet, who is known for other animation projects such as MrSpherical and The Lyosacks. The channel is managed under Now Creatives, and some of the team who works on MrSpherical also works on this channel.

A spinoff of MrSpherical, SolarBalls creates animated content centered around the planets and solar system, rather than countries. Their videos often cover questions relating to the topic of outer space from a comedic perspective. SolarBalls has found significant success, amassing over 600,000 subscribers as of December 2022.

Similar to MrSpherical, SolarBalls produces animations using ball-shaped avatars to represent different characters (in this case, celestial bodies), as seen in the Countryballs art style. With the solar system theme, this art style has been referred to as "Planetball" or "Spaceball".

Many of their videos begin with a title question, such as "What if planets collide?" or "Can we survive on Mars?".[1][2] The "about" section of the channel says that "you'll get to meet the planets of the Solar System, who are NOT what you are expecting. You'll be having so much fun with their personalities, it'll be too late when you notice you're learning all sorts of interesting things."[3]

The channel also has a sort of continuity between its videos, where some videos are a continuation of previous storylines and characters retain knowledge from interactions with other celestial bodies.

The characters include all of the solar system planets, such as Earth, Mercury, Venus, etc.; while also featuring other celestial bodies like the Sun, and satellites like the Moon. Lastly, SolarBalls also features an original character nicknamed "Astrodude", who is an astronaut seen in many of their videos.

The SolarBalls channel was created on May 5, 2022. The project was officially launched with the release of their first video on June 1, 2022.[4]

Since its debut, SolarBalls has been uploading on a weekly schedule. The channel became an immediate hit (partially thanks to the already established franchise, and promotion of the channel by MrSpherical[5]), reaching 100,000 subscribers less than two weeks after its first upload.
