The Northwestern Medicine physician’s coat has never been more fitting than on 12-year-old Melanie Rodriguez Romo. For her Make-A-Wish request after a life-saving kidney transplant, Melanie asked to be a physician for a day — something she has dreamed about since she was 3.
During her recent two-day Make-A-Wish visit at Northwestern Medicine and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Melanie received an honorary medical school letter of acceptance and jumped right into simulated patient care with physicians. She learned how to perform CPR, cast a broken arm, intubate a simulated patient and stitch a simulated wound. During a graduation ceremony, Melanie received her white physician’s coat and honorary medical school diploma.
Melanie Rodriguez Romo is one to watch!
