Author Guidelines

Types of Submissions

TODAES welcomes the following types of submissions:

Regular Research Papers: Research papers report recent significant research results that have not been published or under review elsewhere. See Manuscript Preparation below about specific requirements for extensions to conference papers.

Keynotes: Keynote papers present the state-of-the-art advances, challenges, opportunities, and visions on specific topics, and are typically written by prominent researchers in the respective areas. Keynote submissions are by invitation only but will be reviewed.

Surveys: A survey paper provides a comprehensive overview of a selected topical area. A survey article should organize and classify the existing literature, evaluate the trends and develop perspectives. A good survey paper shall have balanced coverage from different viewpoints. Interested authors should contact the EiC or the Senior Associated Editors before submitting a survey paper.

Tutorials: Tutorial papers help readers to learn the basics of certain areas outside their specialties in an accessible way. Contributions are intended to be accessible to a broad audience, featuring clear exposition, a lively tutorial style, and pointers to the literature for further study. Interested authors should contact the EiC or the Senior Associated Editors before submitting a tutorial paper.

Designer Notes: Design Notes are short articles (typically less than 15 pages) specifically for practitioners to share their hardware and/or software design experiences with current tools, design case studies, problem specific framework/tool flows, etc. Designer Notes are not required to contain innovative algorithms or methodologies but must present non-trivial design practices and insights.

TODAES also welcomes special issue proposals from leading researchers/practitioners. Such proposals should be sent as email to Joerg Henkel, Senior Associate Editor, at [email protected].

During the submission process, please make sure to select the right type for your manuscript to avoid unnecessary delays.

Manuscript Preparation

The technical contributions appearing in ACM TODAES should be original papers which have not been published or under review elsewhere. Simultaneous submissions to conferences and journals, and submissions that have already appeared in journals will be rejected by default. Publication of a previously published conference or workshop article that is available in a formal proceedings (with digital archival) is allowed only if the editor judges that (a) the revision contains significant amplification or clarification of the original material (30% or more new material), or (b) there is a significant additional benefit to be gained from journal publication e.g., one article that connects multiple previously published articles in a coherent manner where the integration of these articles provides additional insight on the approach or overall system.

In either case, any prior appearance should be noted on the title page of the paper. Furthermore, author needs to prepare the following supporting documents:

a brief note clearly indicating what constitutes the (30% or more) new material in the manuscript compared to the related article(s), and

the related article(s) that are previously published or under review elsewhere.

When there are any supporting documents (including the ones mentioned above), these documents should be uploaded as separate PDF files using the Main Document file designation. For submissions based on previously published works, please upload files in the following order:

manuscript

note explaining the new material in the manuscript compared to the related article(s)

previously published work(s).

Authors should also read the following ACM policies:

ACM's policy on prior publication and simultaneous submissions

ACM's policy on plagiarism, including self plagiarism

ACM's policy on author representations.

Templates

ACM authoring templates are found at: http://www.acm.org/publications/authors/submissions.

To ensure proper indexing, classification, retrieval and dissemination, authors must include five required information in the manuscript: i) descriptive title, ii) author names and affiliations, iii) abstract, iv) content indicators, and v) citations to relevant literature. The following serve as guidelines for the preparation of this material.

Descriptive Title

Select a title that accurately and clearly tells what the paper is about. Choose title terms as highly specific as content and emphasis of the paper permit. Avoid special symbols and formulas in titles unless essential to indicate content. Avoid cute or clever titles.

Author Names and Affiliations

Authors' names should be given without titles or degrees along with the name and address of the organization for which the work was carried out. A footnote on the first page should acknowledge funding sources and presentations, if any, of the material at technical meetings (give dates and sponsoring societies). The author's current address should be given in a footnote on the first page.

Authorship

Anyone listed as Author on an ACM paper must meet all the following criteria:

they have made substantial intellectual contributions to some components of the original work described in the paper;

they have participated in drafting and/or revision of the paper;

they are aware that the paper has been submitted for publication;

they agree to be held accountable for any issues relating to correctness or integrity of the work.

Other contributors may be acknowledged at the end of the paper, before the bibliography, with explicitly described roles, preferably using the roles found in the CASRAI Contributor Roles Taxonomy at http://dictionary.casrai.org/Contributor_Roles.

Abstract

The abstract should be from 150 to 200 words long and consist of short, direct, and complete sentences. It should be informative enough to serve in some cases as a substitute for reading the paper itself. It should state the objectives of the work, summarize the results, and give the principle conclusions. The title need not be repeated. Work planned but not done should not be described in the abstract. Because abstracts are extracted and used separately, do not use the first person, do not display mathematics, and do not use citation reference numbers. Try to avoid starting with the words "This paper ..."
