英语中有不少名词可以加of来表示数量。

1) 一些表示数量的名词与of 搭配形成量词There are a number of possible solutions. 有几个可能的解决方案。The students will have plenty of time for fun after the final exam. 期终考试后学生会有很多时间玩乐。It is important for your body to receive a sufficient amount of sunlight. 让身体接收足量的阳光很重要。Finally I decided to stay there for a couple of days. 最后我决定呆在那里几天。

更多这类结构如下：a lot of 许多a small amount of 少量a good/great many of 大量，很多a great quantity of 大量,很多a small quantity of 少量a heap of 很多，一大堆a ton of 大量

这些名词中有些可以用复数形式来表示“大量”的意思，如: lots of; numbers of; heaps of; tons of; quantities ofLot of crude oil was exported from this country in the last three years. 过去3年中这个国家出口了大量原油。We have heaps of work to do. 我们有许多工作要做。

2) 一些名词与 of 搭配表示少量I think she might have lost a bit of weight. 我想她体重可能减轻了一些。Put a pinch of sugar in the coffee. 在咖啡里加一小撮糖。This room will look better with a spot of paint. 加上一点油彩可以让这个房间增色不少。There isn't a grain of truth in his statement. 他的声明里没有一点是真实的。

3) 一些表示容器的名词与of搭配表示数量，如:a cup of coffee 一杯咖啡a box of candy 一盒糖果a can of beer 一罐啤酒a bag of wheat 一袋小麦a bowl of rice 一碗饭a bottle of wine一瓶葡萄酒a bucket of water 一桶水a spoon of salt 一匙盐a glass of lemon一杯柠檬汁a pack of cigarettes 一包香烟a pot of jam 一罐果汁a basket of apples 一筐苹果a tube of toothpaste 一根牙膏

[注]有些名词还可以加-ful，如: a spoonful of soup 一匙汤a basketful of vegetables 一篮子蔬菜

4) “名词 + of”有时表示一群人或一群动物，如:a group of children 一群小孩a gang of workers 一伙工人a troop of soldiers 一队士兵a flock of sheep一群羊a swarm/cloud of locusts 一大群蝗虫a herd of elephants 一群大象

5) 还可用一些表示形状的名词与of搭配, 通过这些物体的形状、大小来表示量的多少。He bury himself under a mountain of papers all day. 他整天专心研看大量论文。A thread of light emerged from the keyhole. 从钥匙孔透出一线亮光。Streams of cars were driving into the city every day. 每天都有长串长串的汽车开进城里去。
