  somebody也可用作名词,意为“重要人物”。例如:He thinks he is somebody in his own village.他认为自己在村上是一个有影响的人物。

  sometimes是“频率副词”,表示“有时”“常常”“往往”,指某事只在某些场合会发生,并非在一切场合都发生。

  sometimes可修饰动态动词、静态动词,多位于谓语动词之前或系动词之后,为了强调,也可位于句首或句末; 用于对比结构时也可位于谓语动词之后。

  sometimes没有比较级和最高级。

  Their swimming pool is somewhat deep than ours. 他们的游泳池比我们的游泳池稍微深一点儿。

  We are suffering somewhat from the heat. 我们因为酷热有些不好受。

  somewhere的基本意思是“在〔往〕任何地方,在〔往〕什么地方”,还可作“大约”解。

  somewhere常用于肯定句中, anywhere常用于否定句和疑问句中。在疑问句中,可以用somewhere或anywhere,如果期望对方回答“是”,就用somewhere,如果不知道对方会回答“是”还是“不是”,用somewhere, anywhere都可以。

  somewhere可修饰动态动词,多位于其后,也可用作表语,在口语中,可修饰形容词。

  somewhere无比较级和最高级。

  n.(名词)

  son用作可数名词的基本意思是“儿子”,指男性的有直系血缘的第二代。引申可作“子孙,后裔”解,常用复数。

  son还可用作称呼,指长者对较年轻的男子或男孩的非正式的称呼,也可指罗马天主教神父对前来忏悔者的称呼,常译成“孩子”,前加限定词,第一个字母要大写。

  son后可接介词of,表示“…的儿子〔后裔,子弟〕”,有时还可表示“…人”。

  son在基督教里还可表示“圣子”,指耶稣基督(圣父、圣子、圣灵三位一体中的第二位),其前要加定冠词the,且常用作单数。

  用作名词 (n.)

  I woke up and was greeted by bird song. 我一觉醒来,鸟鸣之声不绝于耳。

  The song of birds heralds spring. 鸟儿的歌唱预报春到。

  He was awakened by the song of birds in the trees. 他被林中的鸟鸣声闹醒。

  adv.(副词)

  soon用作副词,意思是“不久”,可指“将来”,表示“预期的时刻不久就会到来”,用以谈论不久将来的事或在过去某时间以后不久所发生的事,强调两个时间的接续关系。soon引申还可作“早”“快”解,强调行为的快捷,毫不迟延。

  soon还可作“宁可”“宁愿”解,通常与would等连用,构成would (just), as soon…(as), would sooner…than的句型。

  soon可放置于句末,有时也可放在句首,也常置于动词短语的第一个助动词后面,如果没有助动词,就置于实义动词前。但如果动词是be,则位于be的后面。如加quite, very或too修饰, soon则须置于句末。

  no sooner…than…意思是“一…就”,特别用于书面语中,表示一件事情紧接着另一件事情发生, no sooner通常位于第一个从句的主要动词前面,第二个从句than开始。在故事中,有时用倒装语序,将no sooner放于句首,后面紧跟主语。

  soon前可有very, pretty, quite, rather等修饰。

  用作形容词 (adj.)

  She is such a sophisticated woman that she saw through his trick at the first sight. 她是个十分老练的女人,她一眼就看穿了他的把戏。

  As far as defense is concerned, we need to buy more sophisticated weapons. 就防御的观点来说,我们需要购买更多精密的武器。

  I’d rather deal with a simple man than a sophisticated man. 我宁愿与纯朴的人打交道,不愿与世故的人交往。

  用作名词 (n.)

  Lily is a Sophomore now. 莉莉现在大学二年级。

  When she was a sophomore, she took a course in biology. 当她还是大学二年级的学生的时候,她选学了一门生物课。

  用作形容词 (adj.)

  Henry is in his sophomore year. 亨利在读二年级。
