不可用数目计算的名词是不可数名词。大部分物质名词和抽象名词是不可数名词。

比如 “air空气”, 我们不能计算空气的数目,因此air是不可数名词。

比如下列不可数物质名词不可用数目计算:

water水,electricity电

wine酒, ink墨水

iron铁,soil土 比如下列不可数抽象名词不可用数目计算:

music音乐,art艺术

love爱,happiness幸福

health健康,pride骄傲

不可数名词只有单数形式,无复数形式,做主语时,在句中对应的谓语动词用单数形式。

The news is very important.

这新闻非常重要

His luggage looks heavy.

他的行李看起来重。

Time is up.

时间到。

虽然不能计算不可数名词的数目,但是可计算它的量。

虽然不能计算“water水”的数目,但是若要衡量“water水”的量,我们可以说“two glasses of water

因此,要表示不可数名词的量,须在其之前加衡量单位:

a piece of advice

一条建议

a bottle of water

一瓶水

three bags of rice

三袋米

four liters of milk

四公升牛奶

ten kilos of meat

十公斤肉

不可数名词可单独使用,不加限定词;也可在其前面加限定词。

1.表示泛指时,可单独使用

Amy loves music.

艾米喜欢音乐。

Failure is the mother of success.

失败乃成功之母。

We don't like to drink beer.

我们不喜欢喝啤酒。

2.前面加不定代词some \ any \ little \ a little \ much \ a lot of \lots of \ plenty

I have some money.

我有一些钱。

Have you got any rice?

你有米吗?

I've got a little money.

我有一点钱。

I haven't got much rice.

我的米不多。

I have to do a great deal of work.

我有很多工作要做。

She has plenty of time.

她有很多时间3.前面加物主代词my \ your \ his \ her \ our \ their 等

That is not my beer.

那不是我的啤酒。

Your milk is in the fridge.

你的牛奶在冰箱里。

We store our wine in the basement.

我们把我们的酒存在地下室里。

4.表示特指时,可在前面加冠词the (不可数名词前不能用不定冠词)

The soup is very delicious.

这汤很美味。

The music is very loud.

这音乐很大声。
