Burnley host Wigan Athletic in the Championship this weekend.

Burnley remain in a commanding position at the top of the Championship and are firmly on course for a quick return to the Premier League. They boast a 10-point gap to Sheffield United in 2nd and with 17 points separating the Clarets and 3rd, it won’t be long before they can confirm promotion.

Despite their strong footing at the top of the table, they will be keen to bounce back from an underwhelming goalless draw against Blackpool last time out.

As for Wigan Athletic, Shaun Maloney is running out of time to salvage their Championship status.

The Latics’ previously leaky defence has tightened up, helping them pick up some valuable draws. However, victories are what they need, and after recent defeats to West Brom and Preston North End, relegation fears are nearing boiling point.

“Burnley will be keen to put Wigan Athletic to the sword after a frustrating performance last time out. They’re marching towards the Premier League once again and a record points total is still up for grabs, and Kompany won’t be showing any interest in letting up.

“I think the scoreline will remain respectable, but this should be fairly routine for the hosts.”

“That draw v Blackpool will have felt like a huge loss for Kompany and his Burnley players, so expect them to be out for blood in this one.

“It’s another tricky game for the Clarets though as Wigan have really shored up in recent weeks, and with Blackpool having proved that Burnley can be tamed, Wigan will fancy their chances going into this one.

“I don’t think Burnley will run riot here, but I really fancy them to get back to winning ways and to react to the Blackpool draw in a positive manner – I’ll say home win.”
