I also have a problem of not being able to open some lif files on WIN10 64; while some open just fine. Same problem for exactly the same files on a Mac. Bio-Formats versions 6.6.0 (the latest), 6.0.1. and probably some in between (I tried it on multiple computers and multiple versions at this point), exactly the same files from the experimental series cannot be opened.

In some cases, it appears that the bf “invents” time-lapse when it is just an XYZ stack. If I manually input the file name, it shows a menu of all the series in a lif, but there will be T info in there, and it should not be. Next, If I try to open the selected series, there are few different outcomes: 1) The series will open with T slidebar at the bottom, but completely different ROI for each “T” - not sure what was stitched together. 2) Sometimes, just the first series opens irrespective of what was selected for opening. 3) Does not open at all.

If I go through Bio-Formats Import, there is a warning message that the series are named too similarly (this warning does not show up when drag-and-drop). However, some lif files that do open have series named in exact same manner (i.e. similarly). I renamed the series in LAX just to test if that indeed is the problem, to no avail.

FWIW, I could open the lif files just fine in LAX from the portable drive I am using, so it shouldn’t be a case of corrupted files…
