hit the ceiling

　　"hit the ceiling" 听上去像是砸天花板。而世界上，这是一种夸张的比喻。中文有句话叫“怒发冲冠”，形容人发起火来头发竖起来把帽子顶起来，英文中则更加夸张，怒气何止是顶起帽子，简直直冲天花板。所以“hit the ceiling” 其实表示的是大发雷霆、暴跳如雷。

　　hit the hay

　　hay 的原意是“干草”。庄稼地旁经常有一堆堆的干草，庄稼人也常常在这些干草垛上打盹。hit the hay字面上的意思就是倒在草垛上，后来，经常被人们用来指“上床睡觉”。同样的意思也可以说“hit the sack.”

　　hit the spot

　　"hit the spot"从字面意思看，就是正中靶心，让人满意。口语中，它在不同的语境中，可以表达出“恰到好处，符合某人心意，让人回复活力”等意思。我们来看一下句子：

　　我想今天这些冰淇淋挺合胃口的。

　　I want something hot—some coffee would really hit the spot.
