1.Ex-向外

来自拉丁语前缀ex-：从，来自；从……向外，向外；向上。来自PIE*eks-：向外，在外。在拼写演变上，该原始印欧语根进入希腊语拼写演变为ek-,该希腊语前缀进入拉丁语拼写演变成ex-。前缀ex-在字母前被同化为ef-;在浊辅音b、d、g和半辅音j、l、m、n、r、v前缩写成e-。前缀ex-进入古法语和意大利语后，部分拼写演变为es-。该前缀词义总结如下：

（1）从，来自，以前的（from, from within former）;

（2）从……向外，向外（out, out of）；

（3）向上（upwards）。

拉丁语前缀ex-进入古法语和意大利语产生拼写变体es-，由古法语进入中古英语时少数单词进一步产生拼写变体as-，甚至直接缩写为s-。

Exo-: 外面，外边

来自希腊语前缀exo-: 外面，外边；来自PIE*eks-：向外，在外。该前缀主要用于科技术语。

2.E-缓和语音

因在拉丁语后期，将拉丁语的罗马人发现以sc-、sp-和st-开头的词很难发音，或发出来的音很难听。因此，为了缓和语音，罗马人在这些字母前加上缓音字母i-，以便于发音。后公元5世纪时该音又逐渐变成了e-，并以esc-、esp-和est-的拼写形式进入拉丁语诸方言（西班牙语、意大利语和法语），尤以法语最为明显。但是在15世纪时，在法语中该缓音字母e变成了尖音é，从而导致其后的s音脱落。如英语单词etude,来自法语étude,来自古法语 estude,来自拉丁语studium:学习。

缩写自electronic:电子的。

4.Epi-在上，在后

来自希腊语前缀epi-:在上，在后;来自PIE*epi-:靠近，在附近，在上面。引申词义：额外，其他，另外等。该前缀在元音和h前缩写为ep-。

5.Equ-相等，等同

来自拉丁语前缀equ-,来自拉丁语acquus:相等的，对等的。Acqu-:相等，等同;-us:形容词后缀。对应希腊语前缀iso-:相等，等同。进入英语拼写演变为equ-。该前缀包括拼写形式equ-和equi-。

6.Eu- 好，优

来自希腊语前缀eu-:好；来自希腊语副词eu-:好，很好。
