简单来说,有效教学就是以尽量少的时间、精力和物力投入,取得尽可能多的教学效果和效益。

BOPPPS有效教学结构

BOPPPS有效教学法包含六大教学结构,分别是导言(Bridge-in)、学习目标(Objective/Outcome)、前测(Pre-assessment)、参与式学习(Participatory Learning)、后测(Post-assessment)和总结(Summary)。BOPPPS是老师们开展课前教学设计和课中组织课堂教学的一种有效方法。

(1)导言(Bridge-in)。导言的作用是为了吸引学生的注意力和提高学生的学习兴趣,让学生知晓课程主题和重要性。可以采用有趣图片、引经据典、经验分享、新闻报道和简短影片等方式来导入。

(2)学习目标(Objective/Outcome)。学习目标要从学习者的角度出发,明确、适当、可达成、可测量,涉及认知、技能和情意等三方面目标。关于学习目标的撰写方法和注意事项可以参照嘟教授之前(在教学研讨会上)分享的关于学习目标和布鲁姆教育目标层次分类法的相关博客(PPT)。

(3)前测(Pre-assessment)。前测的作用是了解学生的兴趣与先备知识,调整后续的难易与进度,让课程的目标更加聚焦。可以采用提问应答、是非选择、匿名表决、开放问题、经验分享等方式开展。

(4)参与式学习(Participatory Learning)。参与式学习的目的在于让主动学习、深入思考、强化印象,要以学生为中心,教师切勿长时间的单方向讲授,可以采取师生、生生互动的方式进行,如问答、讨论、案例、演示等,也可以使用微助教等高科技教学工具开展互动答题来激发学生参与积极性。

(5)后测(Post-assessment)。后测的目的在于验收学生学习成果,检测是否达成学习目标。如果后侧与前测对应,并且教育目标层次进行了升级,那将会是极好的。可以采用知识点测试、应用写作、操作演示、感受体会等形成开展。

(6)总结(Summary)。总结是对教师对课程教学内容的摘要回顾、知识点总结,也可以让学生来进行总结进一步巩固学习效果,还可以布置延伸思考、家庭作业以及后续课程的预告等等,直至顺利完成本节课的教学目标。

The BOPPPS effective teaching method

Mr. Ye Shengtao, a famous educator in China, once said that there are methods in teaching, but there are no fixed methods, the key is to use them reasonably. We have heard a lot about teaching methods, and some teachers use different teaching methods to carry out teaching, such as OBE (Outcome-based Education), PBL (Problem-based Learning, Project-based Learning), GTM (Game Teaching Method), PAD (Presentation-Assimilation-Discussion), etc. Today, I will show you another effective teaching method called BOPPPS.

What is effective teaching?

Effective teaching has three characteristics: First, it must be effective teaching, that is, the results of teaching activities are in good agreement with the expected teaching objectives. Second, it must be efficient, and the ratio of teaching effect to teaching input is large. Third, it must be beneficial. The teaching objectives are highly consistent with the educational needs of specific society and individuals.

Simply speaking, effective teaching is to achieve as much teaching effect and benefit as possible with as little time, effort and material resources as possible.

The BOPPPS effective teaching method consists of six teaching structures, namely, Bridge-in, Objective/Outcome, Pre-assessment, Participatory Learning, Post-assessment, and Summary. BOPPPS is an effective way for teachers to carry out school teaching design and organize classroom teaching in class.

(1) Bridge-in. The purpose of the Bridge-in is to attract students' attention and improve their interest in learning, so students are aware of the subject and importance of the course. It can be imported by using interesting pictures, quotes, experience sharing, news reports, short videos, etc.

(2) Objective/Outcome. Learning objectives should be clear, appropriate, achievable, and measurable. From the perspective of learners, learning objectives involve three goals: cognition, skill, and affection. For the writing methods and precautions of the learning objectives, please refer to the related blogs about learning objectives and Bloom Education Goal Hierarchy written by Professor Du.

(3) Pre-assessment. The function of the pre-test is to understand the students' interest and prior knowledge, to adjust the difficulty and progress of the follow-up, and to make the objectives of the course more focused. It can be carried out by Q&A, true-false, anonymous voting, open questions, experience sharing, etc.

(4) Participatory Learning. The purpose of participatory learning is to engage students in active learning and in-depth thinking and to enhance their impression. It should be student-centered. Teachers should not teach unilaterally for a long time. We can adopt interactive ways between teachers and students or between students and students, such as question-and-answer, discussion, case study, demonstration and so on. We can also use high-technology teaching tools like We-Assistant teaching to carry out interactive answers to stimulate students' enthusiasm for participation.

(5) Post-assessment. The purpose of the post-assessment is to check and accept students' learning achievements and to test whether they have achieved their learning goals. If the post-assessment corresponds to the pre-assessment and the level of educational objectives is upgraded, it will be very nice. Post-assessment can be formed by knowledge point test, applied writing, operation demonstration, feelings and experience, and so on.

(6) Summary. Summary is an overall review of teachers' teaching content and knowledge points. We can allow students to summarize it and further consolidate the learning effect. We can also arrange extended thinking, homework and follow-up course notice, etc. until the teaching objectives of this lesson are successfully completed.
