Abstract: 

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are common brominated flame retardants with chronic toxicity such as fertility toxicity, reproductive toxicity and carcinogenicity. As a typical brominated flame retardant, PBDEs are often added to various products to improve the safety of products. However, in the process of using various commercial products, PBDEs would escape to the indoor environment inevitably and be ingested by human. Studies have shown that human spend 80%-90% of their lifetime indoors. Therefore, it is extremely important to understand the present situation of indoor PBDEs pollution status and to evaluate the harm of indoor PBDEs intake to human health. This paper summarized the concentration level, composition characteristics, main monomers and exposure risk of PBDEs in indoor environment, and offered forward suggestions for future research.
