Question was: “As a US citizen how do I get dual citizenship with Canada?”

Answer: You don’t. There is no such thing as “getting dual citizenship with Canada.” It is possible, if you are accepted into the Canadian immigration process, to move here and eventually become a Canadian citizen, at which point, if you kept your US citizenship, you would also be what is commonly referred to as a “dual citizen”, but there is no formal status of “dual citizen” or acquisition of such. Each country is primarily and almost solely concerned with your citizenship status within their jurisdiction.

There are no shortcuts for US citizens to get Canadian citizenship, you are treated just like the rest of the world. You can either apply for Express Entry as an adult with qualifications that are needed here, or you can apply as a family-class immigrant if you have a Canadian spouse or certain types of close relatives here. In either case, the status you apply for is Permanent Residency (PR), not citizenship. In order to apply for citizenship, you must first live here (meaning actually be physically present in the country) for at least three years as a PR.

No US citizen has been accepted as a refugee or claimer of political asylum for a very long time, since the Vietnam war ended in fact. Hating Trump and what destruction he and his party are causing, while understandable, does not get you in.
